Avoiding Lost Tools

Among the tools most rock and fossils take to collecting sites are geology hammers and cold chisels. However, these are typically made in dull colors, and are easily lost among rocks and sediment in the field. For this reason many collectors spray paint their tools bright colors such as neon orange, red, or yellow. While discussing this at a board meeting of our club a couple years ago, I confided that I had lost my share of hammers and chisels over the years. At this point my friend Mike Nathal piped up without missing a beat: "Yah, and that's just in his apartment."
