Cool Flexicalymene Trilobite

Species: Flexicalymene sp.
McMillan Shale Formation
Southwestern Ohio
Upper Ordovician
Approx. 450 million years old

Trilobites were a large group of prehistoric marine arthropods that thrived in ancient oceans long before dinosaurs appeared on earth. They superficially resemble crabs, but are in their own fossil group and totally extinct. The fossil offered here is an example of a well-preserved Ordovician trilobite about 420 million years old, on gray shale matrix. As is often the case with trilobites in the Calymenid family, the back is flexed inward, and the head bowed downward--even more than usual in this specimen. Perhaps the fella was beginning to enroll when he met his demise. The tips of the genial cheeks are missing but otherwise the specimen is largely complete and well preserved. The slab has been cut flat at the bottom to allow it to stand nicely. Include is a full identification label. This would make a wonderful addition to any fossil collection or super gift for any science and nature lover. Low starting bid and no reserve. Buyer to pay $3.75 shipping in the United States. Payment by check, money order, Billpoint, or PayPal accepted.
