Enrolled Ceraurus Trilobite

Species: Ceraurus pleurexanthemus
Virulam Formation
Middle Ordovician
James Dick (Mara/Gambridge) Aggregates Quarry
Mara, Ontario, Canada

This fancy trilobite species is one of the most sought-after ones from the Ordovocian of Ontario, and is almost never found enrolled. This particular large enrolled Ceraurus is the only one I have ever found, and only one of two found during many years I and other NCFC club members have collected in Ontario (I once found a smaller enrolled Ceraurus, with the tail prongs separated from the body). The larger specimen shown here is missing one tail prong (the tip of the other prong appears present) and a has a knick on the left cheek, but otherwise is virtually complete and in excellent condition. It is approx. 4 cm (1.6 inches) wide, 3 cm nose to back, and 2.5 cm top to bottom.
