Trilobites were a large group of prehistoric marine arthropods that thrived in ancient oceans long before dinosaurs appeared on earth. This fossil offered here is a beautifully-preserved Asaphus expansus trilobite from the Ordovician period of Sweden (about 450 million years old). These are much less common than the Asaphus trilobites of Russia, especially one of this quality. It is displayed naturally on the original grey limestone matrix, and has been professionally preparred to reveal all details of the fossil (including the microscopic eye facets--without any restoration or repair. The trilobite itself is a little over 2 inches long and 1.3 inches wide (see ruler in photos).
